Venraya Bajji – Recipe

A Tamil fritters that can be baked instead ot frying.

Ingredients

  • 1 red onion
  • 1½ cups chickpea flour
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp corriander
  • 1 tsp ground red chilli flakes
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 3 minced cloves garlic

Method

  • Heat oven to 200°C (400°F)
  • Mix the chickpea four, spices and garlic together
  • Add a amall amount of water until a thick smooth batter is formed
  • Slice the onion into thin stips Mix the onion with batter
  • Form the mixture into small flat disks or balls
  • Bake in oven for approximately 20-25 minutes
  • Turn the patties over
  • Bake in oven for approximately 20-25 minutes
