Arthur Stewart Truswell – A Short Bibliography
Arthur Stewart Truswell was born in England on 18 August 1928.
Stewart Truswell studied medicine at Liverpool University and Cape Town University graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree with honours at University of Cape Town in 1952, and Doctor of Medicine at University of Cape Town in 1958 for his thesis 'Researches in Human Nutrition'.
Stewart was conferred a Doctor of Science (DSc) on 15 May 1998 by the University of Sydney.
A Doctor of Science is a research-based doctoral degree which is higher than a PhD, is awarded for significant, original and distinguished contributions to a specific field of science. It signifies the highest level of academic achievement in science and provides recognition to scholars who have made substantial advancements in their field.
During his time at the University of Sydney, Stewart established the Human Nutrition Department and the Department of Biochemistry as one of the two leading Centres of Human Nutrition Research and Education in Australia and made significant contributions to the University of Sydney in research, teaching and administration. He fostered and maintained strong international links and his research received high international recognition. In recognition of his outstanding and sustained service to the university, the senate conferred the title of Emeritus Professor on 1 February 1999.
Stewart was the Foundation Boden Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney taking up the position in 1978 until retiring from the University on 31 December 1998.

The PURE Study Myths
Dr James Muecke is the Australian of the Year in 2020 which was awarded for his work as an eye-surgeon and his work in preventing blindness.
Muecke believes that we should be eating more eggs, cheese, meat and dark chocolate to minimise diabetes, its associated blindness (diabetic retinopathy) and diabetic neuropathy. Peripheral diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage of the limbs that is caused by diabetes. 50% of adults with type 2 diabetes have peripheral neuropathy. It can result in pain, numbness and an increase in sensitivity. Diabetes account for more than 80% of amputations.
Muecke cites the PURE Study to justify his low-carbohydrate, high-fat, animal-based diet.
The PURE Study is an observational study in 27 countries that examined 225,000 people. The study period is 20 years.

Rural Indian Regional Diets
Despite India's reputation for a healthy, vegetarian cuisine, it is not justified. Only 1.6% of Indians are vegan, 24% are lacto-vegetarian. 3% add eggs to their lacto-vegetarian diet which leaves 72% consuming meat.
The Indian population has the highest prevalence of diabetes worldwide and exhibits high-risk metabolic profiles at younger ages and lower body mass index than their Western counterparts. There are significant regional variations to this observation.
The reasons why Asian populations exhibit diabetes at a lower threshold than western populations are not known.
According to WHO mortality statistics, India is ranked 17 for Low Birth Rate, 37 for Diarrhoeal Diseases, 40 for Tuberculosis, 60 for Malnutrition and 62 for Influenza & Pneumonia out of 183 countries.
Given the current increase in consumption of meat and oils and a decrease in grains, the prevalence of obesity and diabetes is likely to continue.

Californian Seventh-day Adventists are much healthier than the average American.

The key areas addressed in the documentary are transport, electricity production, agriculture, marine permaculture (kelp farming) and education.

Bats, Fish and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a type of motor neuron disease, a group of rare neurological diseases that mainly involve the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement. Voluntary muscles produce movements like chewing, walking, and talking.
Despite dozens of studies being published linking ALS with neurotoxins that can be found in fish, it is unlikely that you will hear this information from a doctor or motor neuron disease support groups.

The Ketogenic diet slays the opposition? – not true
An article titled, How the Keto diet – even without exercise - slays the opposition, by Derek Beres was published on Think Big website on 11th December 2017.
The Gibas study quoted by the article claims that ketosis is a useful and valid tool to control metabolic syndrome, diabetes and obesity.

CSIRO Healthy Diet Score and Egg Consumption in Australia
In May 2015, the CSIRO (Australia) Healthy Diet Score survey was launched. This survey describes Australian’s self-reported diets and their compliance with the Australian Dietary Guidelines. As at June 2016, more than 85,000 people have responded.
This survey was used to justify the “Eggs are OK every day” campaign. This is despite the fact that the only measurable health outcome was weight status and despite the fact that there is only a fair correlation between two different self-reported dietary surveys that were performed a week apart.
