A Guide to Optimal Well-being

I am Richard Harding. I have been involved with the presentation and design of nutrition courses for registered training organisations for many years.

I have sent this information to many people, journalists and organisations but unfortunately it has not generated much interest.

I have a 150 page, 150,000 word website. The website has a range of supporting material including ebooks, a published book and video. My story (and some great photos) can be viewed from the home page on my website.

I have a reference manager that contains over 6000 entries. Most are primary references from peer-reviewed journals where I have a copy of the article on my PC. There are also references to books, TV documentaries, podcasts, webpages, blog posts, newspaper articles, conference papers, ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) programs, news items, WHO reports and documents.

The great news is that the cause of breast and prostate cancers are already known.

Professor Stewart Truswell, a 98 year-old professor of nutrition at University of Sydney, says my material is “brilliant” and that he “cannot find any mistakes” in all my material which includes a printed book, ebooks, 150 page website and a 97 minute video. His bio is on my website. He still has an office at the University of Sydney. I have met him.

I have presented this material to a number of regulatory authorities, Tanya Plibersek, Meryl Swanson and Jenny Aitchison, Australian Medical Association, Medical Journal of Australia without making any impact.

I have contacted many journalists without generataing any interest.

James Valentine should be interested in such information.

I am not selling anything, except for an already proven idea.

I have a 1982 paper (more than 40 years ago) that states: 1

The concept that hormones can cause cancer is most developed for the four hormone-related cancers which are breast, prostate, endometrium, and ovarian.

Dairy products (especially cow’s milk) is another large source of sex hormones.

And a paper published in 2002 examined nine studies and reached the following conclusion: 2

Levels of endogenous sex hormones are strongly associated with breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women.

And a paper published in 2023: 3

Estrogens are known to play essential roles in the initiation and progression of multiple tumor types, especially tumors of hormonally regulated tissues such as the breast, endometrium and ovary.

The cause of a substantial rise of these hormones is also known.

A paper published in 1995 states: 4

At the end of the second month of a low fat, high fiber diet, there was a significant reduction in serum estrone and estradiol levels.

Yet another paper published in 2000 reveals that diets containing soy products substationally decreased sex hormones. 5

Decreases in ovarian hormones are related to isoflavones contained in soy and also to energy energy intake and other components such as protein and fiber but not fat. Our results may explain decreased ovarian hormone levels and decreased risk of breast cancer in populations consuming soya diets and have implications for reducing breast cancer risk by dietary intervention.

A 2020 paper states: 6

This disorder [endometriosis] highly estrogen-dependent and the purpose of hormonal treatments is to decrease the endogenous ovarian production of estrogens. High estrogen production is a consistently observed endocrine feature of endometriosis.

Endometriosis and breast cancer has the same cause – excess estradiol.

I have references to 7 other articles that shows that minimising estrogen activity not only benefits females but has a remarkable impact on the the health of males. 7 ~ 8 ~ 9 ~ 10 ~ 11 ~ 12 ~ 13

The good news is that the cause is already known.

Amber Bryant, at 28-years-old, can barely get out of bed some days due to her endometriosis, ran to raise the awareness of the disease for Endometriosis Australia — a disease she has struggled with since she was 16, but was only diagnosed with in April 2023.I have contacted Amber and provided her with references from peer-reviewed medical journals and the remarkable story of Katherine Lawrence who cured her endometriosis in 7 weeks by changing ONLY her diet. This did NOT require the purchase of supplementary products. 14

I did NOT receive a response from Amber.

Katherine Lawrence’s story is accessible from the right panel of my website by clicking on the green VIDEOS button.

There are other videos explaining why a whole-food, plant-based nutrition works.

It would be relatively easy to duplicate Katherine Lawrence’s experience with two women who are suffering from their debilitating endometriosis.

Following their progress by taking weekly liver function tests and kidney function tests as well as their lipid profiles and oestrogen levels, in particular oestradiol. Enlist the services of a journalist and publish their journey on the home page of the ABC website.

Imagine the impact on thousands of women and men if the progress of these women were shown on the home page of ABC’s website.

It can be difficult for people to find out what really is a healthy diet and to change their shopping, cooking and social arrangements.

Neal speaks about Dr. Anthony (Tony) Sattilaro who in 1978 at the age of 48, was diagnosed with cancerous growths in his skull, right shoulder, prostate, backbone, sternum and genitals. Tony adhered strictly to a macrobiotic diet (that he thought was ludicrous) the diet and began eating his meals at Waxman’s house. Within two weeks, Tony’s extreme pain was completely gone and he stopped taking his pain medications. In September of 1979, 15 months after starting on the macrobiotic diet, a bone scan showed that Tony was completely free of cancer.

After 10 years, he decided he was cured and he could revert back to his old diet. It did not work and died shortly after from his cancer.

There are some incredible stories available from the top panel of my home page and more inspirational stories from the menu item “Inspiration“.

Professor Michael Brown, the Nobel prize winner in 1985 stated, “It turns out to be a lot easier to do the science than to change people’s behaviour“. He stated that we do not need any more research, drugs or stem cells and that we can solve the majority of our “diseases of affluence right now“.

Humans (or apes) did not evolve to eat any animal-derived products. Chimpanzees are the most omnivorous of all the apes and derive 5% of the diet from animals – mostly live termites which we do not find very appealing.

Below is Ruth Heidrich’s story who was in a perilous situation with breast cancer that had spread into her bones and lung.

For my first 47 years of life, everything went well. I felt perfectly healthy. I ran daily for 14 years, including three marathons, and ate what I considered to be a very healthy diet, with plenty of lean chicken, fish, and low-fat dairy.
What I didn’t know was that cancer was growing in my right breast; that is, until it grew to the size of a golf ball. When the lump was detected I was rushed off to surgery to have it removed. Recovering from the surgery, I was given the bad news: The tumour was malignant. Later, the doctor informed me that the cancer had spread throughout the breast and into my bones and one lung. The prognosis did not look good. While paging through the newspaper during my recovery I saw a call for volunteers for a breast cancer study involving diet. I signed up.
After meeting with Dr. McDougall in 1982 as part of that study, I left his office with instructions to follow a low-fat, vegan diet. That diet changed my life. I am now cancer free. Since my diagnosis three decades ago, I have completed the Ironman Triathlon six times, run 67 marathons, won more than a thousand racing trophies.

There is no reason that others cannot achieve the same results as Ruth Heidrich.

In a 30 minute address to the National Press Club on Tuesday 12th December 2020, Dr Muecke said the Australian Dietary Guidelines were flawed, biased at critical multiple levels, conflicted by industry funding and borne out of weak and unreliable epidemiological data that was “certainly not as robust as we have been led to believe”.

Muecke believes that we should be eating more eggs, cheese, meat and dark chocolate to minimise diabetes, its associated blindness (diabetic retinopathy) and diabetic neuropathy. Peripheral diabetic neuropathy is nerve damage of the limbs that is caused by diabetes. 50% of adults with type 2 diabetes have peripheral neuropathy. It can result in pain, numbness and an increase in sensitivity. Diabetes account for more than 80% of amputations.

I telephoned Dr Muecke and asked for a transcript of his talk. He stated that his talks are “all of the cuff and are different each time“. The only references he has are contained in his talks.

My goal is to have the opportunity to address the National Press Club and have the opportunity to present an alternative view that has been validated by clinical trials and epidemiological studies.

I have printed the following pages in colour from my website and handed them individually to Tanya Plibersek, Meryl Swanson and Jenny Aitchison at a Labor Party fund-raising dinner. There was not one food item that was healthy. They all promised to read the material and respond. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

I have a poster at my local Organic Store. Several people have approached me and told me that they life has changed remarkably (for the better) after changing their diet as a result of reading my material. Two were really, really angry – wanting to know why their expensive and ineffectual medical specialists were unable to have any impact on their health when they were able to make profound changes in a very short period of time based only on what they ate.

Imagine the impact on our society if this information was readily available. It could be Walkley Award material for a dedicated and inquistive journalist as well as being one of the major achievements of the life of political leaders.
